How Much Does a Divorce Lawyer in Poznań Cost?

Once the decision to end a marriage has been made, a very practical question follows almost immediately — should you handle the case on your own, or is it worth instructing a lawyer? Divorce proceedings are emotionally exhausting, and staying clear-headed in a courtroom when your former spouse is sitting across from you is harder than it sounds. That is why most clients choose to have a professional handle the case on their behalf.

The natural next question is: how much does that cost?

What Determines a Lawyer’s Fee?

The legal services market in Poznań is well developed and fees vary between firms. There is no fixed universal tariff — the fee charged by an attorney (adwokat) or legal counsel (radca prawny) depends primarily on the complexity of the case and the amount of work it requires.

An uncontested divorce with no dispute about children and no property issues is a fundamentally different case from proceedings in which fault must be proved, a dozen witnesses examined, a psychological assessment from the Court Expert Assessment Team (OZSS) obtained and custody of the children contested at the same time. A different case means a different workload — and a different fee.

How Much Does Full Representation in a Divorce Case Cost?

At our firm we agree the fee individually after learning about the client’s situation — during the first consultation and before any agreement is signed.

As a guide:

Uncontested divorce without a fault finding — from 3,000 PLN. This applies to cases without deep conflict, without disputed issues concerning the children and without a property dispute. Cases of this kind frequently conclude at a single hearing.

Divorce with a fault finding, or with contested issues concerning children or property — from 5,000 PLN. Cases requiring extensive evidence, witness examinations, expert opinions or multiple hearings are priced individually, depending on the scope and likely duration of the proceedings.

We always discuss costs openly and in advance — before signing any agreement, not after.

Can You Instruct a Lawyer Just for the Petition or the Response?

Yes. If you do not want to instruct the firm for the full case, you can ask us to prepare a specific document — the divorce petition, a response to a petition, a maintenance application or any other procedural document.

The cost of a document of this kind depends on its complexity and the work involved. We provide a quote after reviewing the matter — during the consultation or after you send us the relevant documents.

How Much Does a Legal Consultation Cost?

The first consultation in family law matters costs 400 PLN and lasts 60–90 minutes. During the meeting the lawyer reviews your situation, assesses it legally, sets out the possible scenarios and answers all of your questions. By the end of the meeting you will know what your options are, how long the case is likely to take and what the estimated costs are.

If you decide to work with us after the consultation, the consultation fee is credited towards the overall fee. Payment by instalments is available.

What Other Costs Are Involved in a Divorce?

The firm’s fee is not the only cost. The following come on top:

Court filing fee for a divorce petition — 600 PLN, regardless of which firm you instruct or how complex the case is. Paid to the court when the petition is filed.

Stamp duty on a power of attorney — 17 PLN.

Expert costs — if the court orders a psychological assessment from OZSS or a property valuation, additional costs arise and are allocated between the parties by the court.

Translation costs — in cases with an international element, where documents are in a foreign language.

From our experience at the firm, clients who instruct a lawyer frequently achieve a better financial outcome than those who act on their own — particularly in maintenance and property cases, where the difference in the amount awarded can far exceed the cost of legal representation.

FAQ

Can the lawyer’s fee be paid in instalments? Yes. We offer payment by instalments tailored to the stages of the proceedings. The details are agreed individually during the consultation.

Is the consultation fee deducted from the overall fee? Yes — if you decide to work with us after the consultation, the 400 PLN is credited towards the overall fee for the case.

Is the fee fixed in advance or can it change? We agree the fee before signing any contract and state it clearly — no hidden costs. If the scope of the case changes significantly during proceedings, we inform you in advance.

Can I instruct the firm just for the petition or the response? Yes. We can prepare a specific document without taking on the full case. We provide a quote after reviewing the matter.

Is it worth paying for a divorce lawyer? In our experience — yes, particularly where children, property or a fault finding are involved, or where the case is contentious. Professional representation shortens proceedings, avoids procedural errors and in most cases leads to a better outcome.
